What is compost used for?

Compost is a soil enhancer that should be added to your gardens yearly to provide the proper organic matter and nutrients to support the healthy growth of your plantings.

What is our compost composed of?

Miller Compost manufactures leaf and yard waste compost that is derived from municipal curbside brown bag pick up.

What is the difference between standard compost and premium compost?

The difference between the standard compost and the premium compost is the particle size. Standard compost is screened through a ½” screen and the premium compost is screened through a ¼” screen.

What compost best suits my garden, standard or premium compost?

The best compost to use in your gardens would be premium compost. It has a very fine texture and is easy to till into your soils.

What should I build a new garden with?

When building a garden, you will require a structured soil compost blend. Our Ultra Soil will provide the required nutrients and structure for the support of the plants when planting.

What material should I use on my lawn in the spring or fall?

We suggest you use a sand compost blend. Our topdressing is manufactured with premium compost and a coarse washed sand that should be applied after aeration or used for an over seeding application.

Mulches

What do you colour your mulches with?

Miller Compost uses a food grade dye to colour the mulches. This dye is environmentally friendly. It is not harmful to you, your pets or the plants.

Why use mulches?

Mulches are good for weed suppression and water retention. Mulch helps to conserve water while keeping soil cool on the hot days of summer.

Will mulches fade in colour?

The mulch will fade in colour over time. We recommend you cultivate your garden throughout the season and top up mulch as required.

What is the difference between your Saw Mill Series and your Wood Chips?

Our Saw Mill Series is composed of natural wood and the wood chips are collected from recycled lumber.
